Why Families Choose Benton: A Place Where Students Thrive

Many families choose to call Benton home—and for good reason. Our public schools are known for academic excellence, a supportive teaching and administrative staff, and a relentless commitment to student success. The Benton School District sets high expectations for all students while working hard to close achievement gaps, ensuring all learners have the tools to succeed.

With state-of-the-art facilities, dedicated educators, and competitive athletics, it’s easy to see why Benton schools are such a popular choice for families seeking a high-quality education.

A Growing District with Big Opportunities

Benton is home to five elementary schools, two middle schools, one junior high, and one high school.

"At Benton School District, our greatest strength is our people. With over 500 dedicated teachers, administrators, and staff, we are committed to providing each of our 4,750 students with exceptional learning experiences. It’s the passion, expertise, and care of our educators that make our pathway from kindergarten to graduation truly remarkable,” said Dr. Chris Nail, Benton superintendent.

Students can get involved in a wide range of activities—from football and baseball to quiz bowl and e-sports. Here’s just a quick snapshot of what’s offered:

Athletics & Activities:

Students can participate in a growing number of sports, including football, baseball, softball, volleyball, basketball, soccer, cross country, track, cheer, dance, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, and swimming. Fine Arts & Enrichment:

The Benton Band program serves more than 500 students in grades 6–12, offering musical opportunities at every level. Students can participate in traditional band, orchestra, jazz band, small ensembles, individual musicianship, and competitive marching band.

The Benton High School choir is known for its strong performances and consistent high achievement. The Chamber Choir, an advanced auditioned ensemble for students in grades 10–12, represents the program's highest level. Other ensembles include the Concert Chorale, Panther Mass Chorale, and Jazz Choir. The choir program fosters high-level musicianship, vocal technique, and performance skills.

With so many diverse options, every student can find their place to shine.

Academics:

Benton High School continues to shine academically. In 2025, students achieved the highest ATLAS test scores of any non-charter public high school in Arkansas, leading the state in biology, geometry, and English Language Arts.

“Benton schools have a tradition of excellence. Our students, staff, parents, and community all play an important role in creating a positive environment where our students can achieve greatness. Together, we celebrate successes, support one another through challenges, and continually strive to raise the bar for what’s possible. With strong partnerships and a shared commitment to growth, Benton is dedicated to preparing every student for a bright future,” said Megan McGuire, Assistant Principal of Benton High School.

Benton High also offers a wide range of Advanced Placement (AP) courses, providing college-level instruction taught by BHS teachers. These courses go beyond the rigor of Honors classes, challenging students to think critically and prepare for higher education. At the end of each course, students take an AP exam, and those who pass earn college credit.

In spring 2025 alone, Benton students passed 521 AP exams—a remarkable achievement that not only enhances college readiness but also helps families save on future tuition costs.
